CIFNET 2023CIFNET 2023: CIFNET stands for The Central Institute of Fisheries Nautical and Engineering Training came into being in the year 1963. It is a marine studies center situated in Kochi, India. It is maintained by the Department of Fisheries and Animal Husbandry of the Government of India. This popular institute was set up for carrying out research and development in the field. It also promotes studies and research on marine science and technology, marine environment, socio-economic, legal and other related fields. The institute consisted of three training vessels which are mainly used for imparting onboard practical training for institutional trainees and for providing qualifying sea service for post-institutional trainees of the institute.

CIFNET 2023 examination is commenced for providing admission to BFSc and Vessel Navigator Course (VNC)/Marine Fitter Course (MFC) courses. It was established with the aim to train people to fulfill the needs of the fishing industry in India. In addition to Kochin, CIFNET also has various centers located in Chennai and Visakhapatnam. Candidates seeking admission in CIFNET 2023 must know all the details.

CIFNET 2023 Eligibility Criteria:

CIFNET or Central Institute of Fisheries Nautical and Engineering Training (CIFNET) offers three main courses – Bachelor Of Fishery Science (Nautical Science) and Vessel Navigator Course(VNC)/Marine Fitter Course (MFC). Check the below-given eligibility criteria for admission to these courses:

Bachelor Of Fishery Science (Nautical Science):

  • The applicant must have successfully completed class XII from the recognized board.
  • Candidate must have done PCM or PCB stream.
  • Applicant must have acquired a minimum of 50% marks in all the subjects.
  • The candidate’s age should be between 17 years to 20 years as of October 1st, 2023.
  • The maximum age of the candidate taking lateral admission should be 22 years.

CIFNET Vessel Navigator Course(Vnc) / Marine Fitter Course(Mfc):

  • Applicant must have successfully completed class X from the recognised board.
  • Entrant must have studied subjects such as Mathematics and Science in the qualifying examination.
  • Candidate must have acquired at least 40% in class X
  • Candidate’s age should be between 15 to 20 years, as of August 2023.

CIFNET 2023 Application Form:

To apply for CIFNET 2023, you need to apply using the application form from the official website.

  • Download the application form from the official website
  • Fill in all the details in the application form and attach the documents such as the qualifying exams mark sheet, community certificates (if needed) along with the application.
  • Make sure that all the information added in the application form correctly.
  • Fill the application form in capital letters only.
  • Use a black ballpoint pen to fill the application form.
  • After the application is filled, send it to the “The Director, CIFNET, Fine Arts Avenue, Kochi-682016”
  • Submit the application fee via online mode. Check the fee details below:
    • BFSc: General Category/OBC (Rs 500/-) SC/ST (Rs 250/-)
    • VNC/ MFC: General Category/OBC (Rs 300/-) SC/ST (Rs 150/-)

Selection Process:

B.F.Sc (NS):

  • The candidate is selected via Common Entrance Test, Academic Merit in qualifying examination. There are 40 seats for the BFSc course and among which 321 seats are for Gen/Gen-EWS/OBC/SC/ST category applicants, 1 seat for NRI applicants, 1 for foreign Nationals and 7 seats for Lateral Entry System.

VNC (Vessel Navigator Course) & MFC (Marine Fitter Course):

  • The candidate will be selected through Common Entrance Test (CET). There are seats for 20 seats each for admission to VNC and MFC course respectively.
  • 16 seats are available for Gen/Gen-EWS/OBC/SC/ST category candidates and 4 seats for State Government Sponsorship at each centre (preferably from fishermen community)
  • The CET is commenced in centers located in cities such as Kochi, Chennai, Vizag, Kolkata, and Patna.

CIFNET Exam Center:

Candidates can select any of the examination centers from the below-given list:

  • F.Sc. (Nautical Science) – CIFNET Kochi, CIFNET Chennai, CIFNET Vizag
  • Vessel Navigator Course (VNC) & Marine Fitter Course (MFC) – Kochi, Chennai, Vizag, Kolkata, Patna

Admit Card:

It is important for candidates to acquire the admit card/hall ticket as it is an important document that candidates should have to appear in the examination. Check the below-given steps to avail the admit card:

  • First, go to the official website to download the admit card

  • Enter the login details to generate the admit card

CIFNET BFSc (NS) Programme: Those who want to acquire admission in BFSc (NS) need to appear for Common Entrance Test (CET) commenced by the institute. The important highlights of CIFNET BFSc (NS) Common Entrance Test are as follows:

  • The exam will conduct in the offline mode
  • Paper will have objective Type Questions
  • The candidate will receive 1 mark for every correct answer and there will be a deduction of 0.25 marks for an incorrect answer.

CIFNET VNC/MFC programme: Those who are willing to attain admission in VNC/ MFC need to appear in Common Entrance Test (CET) commenced by the institute. The major highlights of CIFNET VNC/MFC Common Entrance Test are given below:

  • Exam will be conducted in the offline mode
  • Paper will have Objective Type Questions
  • Exam time duration will be 2 hours

Syllabus:

  • CIFNET CET commenced for BFSc course include the topics from various subjects prominently Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and English language.
  • VNC/ MFC courses will include the topics such as Mathematics, Science subjects and English language.

Note: The level of questions will be based on the syllabus of the qualifying exam.

Result:

The examination result will be released through the official website of CIFNET. The merit list of candidates will be published online. Those who have their names on the merit list will be considered valid for BFSc(NS) and VNC/ MFC courses proffered by the institute.
