NIFT 2018: Application Form, Exam Dates, Eligibility Criteria

NIFT 2018NIFT 2018 stands for National Institute of Fashion Technology is the premium institution where fashion education is given. This institution proffers courses on the level of Bachelor and Master’s level in the field of designing and fashion technology. After successfully completing the course, candidate will be given admission into sixteen different institutions of NIFT via NIFT 2018-19 Entrance Test. NIFT 2018 Exam Dates:

  • Online Application form Commencement: November 2017
  • Last date of Application Form Submit: January 2018
  • Online Registration form Last date with late fee of Rs. 5000/-: January 2018
  • Downloading Admit Card Date:  January 2018
  • Exam Date of NIFT 2018: February 2018
  • Group Discussion/TEST/Interview date: April-May 2018
  • Date of Final Result Declaration: June 2018
  • Counselling date: June 2018

NIFT 2018 Application Form:

  1. The availability of the NIFT 2018 Application Form will start in the month of November.
  2. There is online mode availability for filling the application form. There will be no proviso like printed form at all
  3. Along with the application form, make payment of Rs 5000/-as the payment for application fee
  4. After form is filled, ensure to take print out of the application form for further ease
  5. Make sure for retaining the payment proof

NIFT 2018 Application Fee:

  • GEN/OBC (Non-Creamy layer) need to pay Rs. 1500/-
  • PHP/SC/ST Category candidates need to make payment of Rs. 750/-

Modes of Making Payment for Application Fee:

  • Credit or Debit Card
  • Demand Draft
  • If you are opting for DD then it must be issued in the favor of ‘NIFT HO’ payable in New Delhi. Also ensure that DD needs to be sent duly completed with application at the mentioned address

NIFT 2018 Eligibility Criteria:

1- For Under Graduate Courses – Qualification Criteria:

  • Those who are applying for B.Des, must have completed their class 12th from some recognized board or central board like CISCE or CBSE or some other Or
  • Must have obtained GCE or General Certificate Education exam (Sri-Lanka / London/Cambridge/) at advanced level (A) level or IB (International Baccalaureate)
  • Any Public School/ University/ Board Exam equivalent as 12th from India or from some foreign universities recognized by AIU
  • Must have passed or appeared in Senior Secondary School Exam commenced by NOS (National Open School)with minimum possible five subjects.
  • Must have 3 years diploma from a recognized institution.


  • Candidate must have passed class 12th from state board or central board with subjects like Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics
  • Those who are holding Candidates holding diploma of 3 years in any branch of engineering are also eligible to apply.

 Age Criteria applicable For UG Courses:

Maximum possible age limit applicable for under graduate level courses is 23 years as on Oct 01, 2017. However there will be age relaxation of 5 years in the category of PHP/ST/SC.

2- For PG Courses:


  • Candidate must have attained the B.Des degree from some recognized institution.
  • Must have acquired with diploma in UG design from NID or NIFT
  • Must have attained undergraduate diploma of 3-years from NID or NIFT. Those who are appearing in the course can also apply for the NIFT 2018


  • Must have attained undergraduate degree from some recognized institution
  • Must have attained diploma of 3-years from NID/NIFT. Those who are appearing in the course can also apply for the course


  • Candidate must have attained B.Tech/B.E. degree from some recognized institution. Those who are appearing in the course can also apply for NIFT 2018

Age Criteria applicable For PG Courses:

There is no age limit for Post Graduation courses.

Provision of Courses Via NIFT 2018 Entrance Exam:

  • Bachelor of Fashion Technology (B.F.Tech)
  • Master of Fashion Management (MFM)
  • Master of Design (M.Des)
  • Bachelor of Design (B.Des)
  • Master of Fashion Technology (M.F.Tech)

NIFT 2018 Exam Pattern:

The NIFT 2018 exam pattern consisted of CAT, GAT, and GD/PI. The details account of the tests mention here:

  • General Ability: GAT or General Ability Test for all the courses will be provided by NIFT. For the courses such as B.Des and M. Des, GAT is the prerequisite test used for selection in NIFT. Post GAT, B.Des and M.Des, applicants require to pass CAT test. Those who qualify both of the written tests can apply for situation test (B.Des) and GD/PI (M.Des)
  • While applying for B.F.Tech, GAT is the only test that one needs to go through. Those who are applying for MFM & M.F.Tech, need to participate in GD/PI after qualifying GAT test.
  • Mode for Exam: All the courses, GAT will commence in offline mode
  • Duration for Exam: Written test for GAT written will take 2 hours (including M.Des & B.Des) and 3 hours duration for B.F.Tech, M.F.Tech and MFM
  • Question Criteria: There will be 100 questions for GAT and 120 questions for M.Des.
  • Language: The question paper will appear in English language only
  • Papers: For M.Des and B.Des, two written exams will be commenced which implies GAT & CAT. For B.F.Tech, M.F.Tech and MFM, GAT will commence.
  • Marking scheme: There will be no provision for negative marking.

NIFT 2018 Syllabus:

  •  GAT for MFM, B.F.Tech, and M.F.Tech comprises of Analytical & Logical Ability, Quantitative Ability, General Knowledge & Current Affairs & Case Study Communication Ability & English Comprehension
  • CAT for M.Des & B.Des test is commenced to check the inventive and creative ability of candidates in designing. As far as situation test concern, it commences for evaluating the skills for innovative ability and material handling. There will be group discussion round as well on case study.
