The Directorate of Technical Education(DOTE) in the Tamil Nadu looks after the development and coordination works pertaining to Technical Education in the State. The admission process for all institutes imparting technical education is supervised and organised by the DOTE. This board is also responsible for deciding the eligibility of a candidate for admission into the three-year Diploma programmes available across 516 Polytechnic Colleges(as on 11th July 2016) spread over 33 districts in this state.
The candidates who qualify for the special reservation category may have to apply to the DOTE directly instead of applying to each individual institute. The marks obtained in the qualifying examinations are used as a measure to admit a candidate in any of the Government, Government aided, Self Financing and Affiliated polytechnic colleges.
